Daily class procedures and expectations:
Remember to use your best Spanish. If you don't know how to express a word, try to talk around it (circumlocution). For example, if you don't know the word for blueberry, you might say "it's a small fruit, it's the color blue, it's a circle..."
Do-now activity: The first thing you do as you come into class. It will be a question or scenario to be answered in your journal. Think-pair-share.
Daily role-play: Way to interact with your classmates using new and previously learned language. Several students may share in front of class.
Mini-lesson: Teacher-directed activity to introduce a new concept to class. Examples given and time to practice with small group or partner.
Activity: This will be a time to practice what you have just learned in the mini-lesson. The focus might be interpretive (listening or reading comprehension), interpersonal (working with a partner to communicate within the language), or presentational (writing or speaking presentation).
Closing activity: Wrapping up what we have learned today. We could play a quick game or you will discuss what you learned with a partner or your group.
The class is conducted all in Spanish! You do not need to understand every single word but if you attend with your ears and your eyes (make sure you are always looking at my gestures and examples), you will understand! I will be available outside of class to explain a concept in English should you need it, however we do not want to rely on translations. Think about how you learned English as a baby, no one needed to give you a translation; you learned because you listened and tried it yourself even if you made mistakes at first. You can do it!!!
